Essay

I believe this about nursing… “Nursing is an opportunity. An opportunity to make a difference in someone`s life through care and prevention, and an opportunity for growth.”

My love for Nursing came about when I was a volunteer at a local children’s hospital during my college senior year. During my time as a volunteer, I realized that nurses play a key role in the well-being of patients. I learned that being a nurse is more than just taking care of the patients at their bedside. Nursing is also about taking care of their families, leadership, and education. They are intelligent, hard-working people who are motivated and persevere. These are the kind of things in life I find exciting and challenging that made me choose this career.

Now, after having completed 7 months of the BSN Accelerated Program at the University of Miami, and a few months away from graduation, I can definitely state that I chose the perfect career for me. During all these months of classes and clinical rotations, I have learned a lot. Not only about the proper care of patients under different conditions, but also about all the opportunities for growth has that nursing offered. When I say growth I mean professional and most of all personal growth. Nursing is the type of profession that will never let you get bored.

Every day that passes by, with the help and support offered by faculty, mentors and family, I feel more and more prepare to get out there, and be the leader, caregiver, communicator, educator and advocate that all nurses are.

I cannot be more thankful to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Their help gave me the opportunity to make my dreams come true and start this wonderful and challenging journey. A journey of opportunities.
