  • Are NCIN scholarships still available to nursing students?
No, the final scholarships were awarded during the 2014-2015 academic year. We suggest looking at funding opportunities within your school or prospective school as they often provide the most up-to-date scholarship information.

  • Is NCIN funding still available to schools of nursing?
No, the final program grants were awarded during the 2014-2015 academic year. No further funding will be available from NCIN.
 
  • When was grant funding available?
NCIN grants and subsequent scholarships were awarded annually between 2008 and 2015. No further funding will be available from NCIN.
 
  • Why did NCIN close down?
After careful analysis and deliberation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) made the difficult decision in 2014 to close down ten of its human capital programs, including NCIN. The foundation refocused efforts on creating a Culture of Health that makes it possible for everyone to lead healthy lives.
 
As RWJF builds its new generation of human capital programs, the foundation will draw on key observations and lessons learned over the course of NCIN’s seven years.
 
  • Can I access and/or download NCIN resources?
Yes, NCIN is proud to offer many valuable resources for free through this website (archived in 2016).

During the program’s lifespan, NCIN and its grantees collaborated on toolkits and other materials to support the recruitment of underrepresented students, the retention of accelerated degree nursing students, and the development of mentoring and leadership capacities. Administrators, deans, program liaisons, and scholars praised the toolkits for providing excellent and much-needed guidance in driving activities that support scholars’ success and leadership preparation.
 
A number of presentations regarding curriculum development and innovative approaches to accelerated nursing education are also available.
 
  • What are the major outcomes of this program?
This program was evaluated internally and externally by Education Testing Services. Major program outcomes and reports are available on our Impact page.
