Essay

I believe this about nursing... "Nursing is a rewarding profession that can lead to daily opportunities to make a difference in others."

During my lifetime, I have encountered many individuals that were not satisfied with their careers.  They dreaded the fact that they even had a job and felt that they were not making a difference in life. One individual in my life that did not have this negative pattern was my sister. She always portrayed a great satisfaction with her daily tasks and was happy and fulfilled with her career. She conveyed a passion and commitment to what she did with every patient. My sister was and still is what many people call, a Nurse. She has been my greatest inspiration to pursuing my goal in becoming a nurse. I want to be fulfilled in my career just like she is and be able to feel like I can make a difference in people’s lives. It is important to be able to find that place where you can feel satisfied with what you are doing and I have found that place in Nursing. To me it is more than just a job, it is a career filled with the opportunity to reach out and help others who are in need.

I am very thankful to The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Careers in Nursing Scholarship, for giving me the opportunity to be able to start my journey in becoming a nurse. This scholarship has given me the ability to be in an accelerated BSN program at The University of Miami. It has been an extraordinary personal and intellectual experience. I am grateful to be part of this program and with the assistance of The Robert Wood Johnson Scholarship; it has turned financial obstacles to an accomplishment with financing my education. I am able to accomplish my dreams and goal in becoming a nurse. I have yet to complete the program; however as every day passes by I can envision myself more as a nurse, which is in immense feeling of joy and satisfaction.
