I believe this about nursing… “It has made a difference in my life.”

I gave up my job and entered into school, a choice that I must admit was scary. I chose a program that was fulltime so I could finish much quicker, get back to work and help support my family. Since I joined an accelerated nursing program, I can complete all of my nursing courses within 12-14 months time. The program also offers clinicals at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Health Systems which will provide me with a wide range of experience in all fields of medicine, and hopefully future employment due to the high nursing shortage.

Unselfishly, I constantly thought whether there would be enough money for school and to sustain my family. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s New Careers in Nursing Scholarship helped me make the decision to choose nursing though, as it paid for over half of my tuition. Most importantly, it helped relieve me of the financial burden to the university and my family.

Who knows better than me and my family the honor and passion I have held for the medical field. My family often shares their aches and pains and I grab my old medical dictionary to try and figure out what could be wrong. Though I left secondary education, I believe that path prepared me for my future to become a prepared RN that will be safety-guided, efficient, effective and compassionate. I learned how to work successfully in cooperation with parents, staff, and students- much like what I will have to do with my patients and fellow healthcare providers. I aspire to be challenged and committed to the promotion of health and wellness to all.

What a wonderful gift nurses are to patients, doctors and people as a whole. Individuals come to hospitals and clinics, entrusting nurses with their loved ones at their most vulnerable and intimate times of their lives. I have always been told that I am patient nurturer, a good listener, detail oriented and a team leader. Sometimes that’s what is needed to make someone feel more comfortable when they are stricken with illness and pain. Humbly, I want to teach/share those personal attributes of my character with others.
