NCIN scholars accepted into the accelerated BSN program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing and Health Studies have diverse backgrounds; they earned their first bachelor’s degrees in music, public health, communications, history, or other fields. NCIN Leadership development activities included mentoring pre-licensure students during health assessment class and in the orientation of new families for newly admitted students. Leadership training also occurs through structured interactions with horses. Scholars participate with faculty during which they discussed a range of issues, including nurse leadership, how nurses function in clinical settings, and the importance of nonverbal cues.
