NCIN scholars at the University of Missouri experienced many transformational moments under the guidance of nurse mentors and faculty in and out of the university. Scholars improved the lives of their patients, educated opinion leaders about the need for newborn screening, and helped strengthen cultural competence in the nursing curriculum. These experiences fueled their desire to inform health policy and work with culturally diverse groups.
