To recruit diverse students and foster a culture that embraces diversity, the school of nursing at Southern Connecticut State University has conducted outreach to health care agencies in the area; continued a partnership with Eastern Connecticut State University; engaged with campus organizations such as the Black Student Union, the Organization of Latina American Students, and the South Asian Student Association; worked collaboratively with the university’s Multicultural Center; and conducted information sessions about the program at club meetings to in- crease awareness. Scholars’ leadership activities involve community outreach, including a Wellness Education Day for families at the YMCA, a health information fair at a senior center, and a blood pressure screening/diabetic education session at a local soup kitchen.
