A key goal for the school of nursing was to provide NCIN scholars with experiences that would help them matriculate into graduate nursing programs and/or assume leadership positions as nurses. To that end, the school organized group activities including monthly “Leadership Concepts” discussions with guest speakers; orientation sessions at which previous NCIN scholars shared advice with incoming students; a Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Rho Pi Chapter Research Day; private Q&A sessions with the president-elect of STTI; and meetings with the NCIN Project Director to address various issues and explore career options. The scholars also attended the Virginia Nurses Foundation’s annual gala.

ESSAY WINNERS

This I believe about nursing… “Every single day you have the extraordinary opportunity to save a life, heal the sick, comfort the dying and make a tangible difference to all of humanity.”

I believe this about nursing… “Nursing isn’t merely a profession that you choose to go into. It’s a lifelong calling that is a part of you.”
