Each year, financial barriers cause 15 to 20 minority or disadvantaged students to decline to enroll in Mary- mount’s BSN program, even though they had applied and been accepted. Marymount used its NCIN grant to help these students enroll in the program and used other NCIN tools to help them remain enrolled and succeed. NCIN scholarships allowed the university to hire an adjunct faculty member to lead and implement a leadership development program for scholars, and made it possible for the chair of the school’s BSN program to reduce her teaching hours, devote more attention to managing and supporting a faculty-led student group, and create a more formal mentoring program.

ESSAY WINNERS

I believe this about nursing… “Nursing affords the opportunity to impact the lives of patients and their loved ones through the promotion of health and the provision of personalized care.”
