There has been a clear culture shift at Lewis University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions (CONHP). Today, faculty members make mentorship and leadership training the rule rather than the exception. Program coordinators say this focused effort, aided by NCIN’s Leadership and the Pre-Entry Immersion Program Toolkits, has increased student satisfaction. Enthusiasm for learning is evident and active engagement in and outside of the classroom has improved. Students and faculty meet regularly, and leadership and mentoring activities present opportunities for networking. Due to NCIN’s focus on mentorship and leadership for second-degree scholars and the helpful toolkit, faculties have an increased awareness for the need for mentorship and leadership for traditional students as well.
