NCIN garnered much attention on the Indiana University Northwest website, in its nursing school publication, and in local media, including the Northwest Indiana Times and the (Gary) Post Tribune. Program administrators hoped the publicity would help recruitment efforts into the future. They engaged area hospitals in discussions about partnerships early in the grant period and beyond; and an in-kind joint appointment of faculty from area hospitals allowed the College of Health and Human Services to enroll one of its largest sophomore BSN classes ever. The school had to turn away almost as many deserving candidates as it accepted for the five available scholarships.
