NCIN scholarships helped support students in Boston College’s direct master’s entry program, and in particular students from groups underrepresented in nursing. These scholarships also changed the culture at the school of nursing by facilitating the diversification of the student body. Diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and thought have, in turn, reduced ethnocentricity and enriched the school’s culture and the cultural awareness and competence of faculty and students. Diversification is a strategic goal for the Boston College School of Nursing and to meet this goal, the school received NCIN grants as well as funds from other sources, including the Helene Fuld Foundation and a Health Resources and Services Administration Nursing Workforce Diversity grant.
