Long text (Legacy Book):
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is the nation’s only research university with a Mexican- American majority student body. The school aims to build a more diverse nursing workforce to meet the health care needs of the country’s growing ethnic minority population. During the NCIN program, scholars have participated in an orientation program to help promote student success, and in clinical experiences with community partners such as the Del Sol Medical Center, Las Palmas Medical Center, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, and Tenet Healthcare. The program has been so successful that the university committed to sustaining its accelerated BSN program, even after NCIN funding ends. UTEP was able to leverage its NCIN grant to receive scholarship funding from private donors for students in the Nursing BSN Fast Track program.
BSN Fast Track: The Accelerated Fast Track BSN Program is a 12 month program designed for second-degree students interested in making a career change. Students may be accepted into the program with a degree from an accredited college or university that meets the Texas Core requirements. The program is an intensive, full time program, the curriculum of which follows the traditional nursing program. After completing the program, students will earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing and be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Accelerated Fast Track BSN graduates have consistently exceeded the national pass rate on the NCLEX.
Students must meet the admissions requirements for the School of Nursing, including completion of required science pre-requisites courses with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Additionally, candidates for admission must take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) and score at or above the minimum standard.
