Long text (Legacy Book):
All the NCIN scholars at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center participated in monthly service-learning leadership activities. Scholars worked with homeless people and people living in parts of the city with high poverty and poor health outcomes through their work in soup kitchens, community agencies, and churches. Activities included serving meals, talking with homeless people, and providing health screenings for and promoting health among adults and youth in underserved communities. Scholars enjoyed using their nursing skills to help others in the community and said that early participation in these community activities exposed them to real-world situations.
Master of Science in Nursing Program:
A Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) program that prepares students for initial licensure as registered nurses and certification as a CNL. As the first professional degree in nursing, it also provides the foundation for preparation at the doctoral level for advanced practice nursing. Individuals can apply for the Master’s Entry CNL program with an undergraduate degree in any non-nursing field. Through an accelerated two year program, students will be eligible to sit for the registered nurse licensure examination and national certification as clinical nurse leaders upon graduation. The curriculum includes class work and clinical experience to provide students with an in-depth understanding of front-line care systems that promote safety, error reduction and quality improvement in the direct care of patients with complex health problems.
