By combining exceptional academic programs with a vibrant research enterprise, a strong outreach program, and opportunities to study abroad, the Penn State School of Nursing provides a rich, diverse educational experience to future professional and advanced practice nurses, nurse researchers, and nurse educators. This experience is grounded in a student-centered environment with small student-to-faculty ratios which allow students to develop strong, supportive relationships with their professors and with each other. Leadership opportunities also exist through programs such as the Women’s Leadership Initiative or organizations such as the Student Nurse Association of Pennsylvania.
The Second Degree program is an intensive sixteen-month program open to individuals who already have a bachelor’s degree in another field. The program is offered at the Penn State Altoona and the Penn State Harrisburg campuses. Students will complete 120 credits, comprised of 60 credits in general education and prerequisite courses (completed in the first degree program, prior to admission) and 60 credits in second degree program. Students with prerequisites to complete may apply to complete these through Penn state's Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program. For students beginning the Second Degree program in the fall,
all prerequisites must be complete by the end of the preceding spring semester.
